A six month experiment in shipping two products

A personal constraint designed to replace the search for a perfect moment with a habit of finishing.

I have spent too many evenings waiting for the right idea, the right week, or the right version of myself. The wait feels productive because it is full of thinking. It is also a very effective way to avoid the moment when an idea becomes something that can be judged. This experiment is an attempt to break that pattern.

The constraint is simple: build and release two products in six months. Each product can be small. Each one has to reach a state where another person can try it. The point is not to prove that two products will succeed. The point is to prove that I can finish, learn from the result, and begin again without treating every release as a verdict on my worth.

Why a deadline helps

A deadline changes the shape of a decision. Without one, every feature can be justified as important. With one, the question becomes sharper: what is the smallest version that delivers the promise? That question is uncomfortable because it forces a definition of the promise. It also makes the work visible. A vague idea can hide in a notebook forever. A product with a release date has to become specific.

I am not expecting the six months to be evenly productive. Some weeks will be slow. Some product choices will be wrong. The experiment only works if those weeks are part of the record rather than evidence that the whole attempt should be abandoned. A public update is useful because it creates a small obligation to return.

The fear is not about the tools

The technical work is familiar enough to start. The harder part is the possibility that nobody cares. That fear can disguise itself as a reason to keep refining the interface or researching another framework. The only useful answer is to make the next release real and let the response be information. A quiet launch is not a failure of character. It is a result that can guide the next attempt.

Notebook note: the goal is not two perfect products. The goal is two honest attempts, each complete enough to teach something.

What I will track

I will keep a record of what was shipped, what was learned, and what I would change. I will not invent a metric that makes the experiment look better than it is. The useful story is in the decisions: what I chose to build, what I chose to leave out, and how long it took to make the core idea legible to someone else.
